Explore Florida's Nature Coast

Florida's Nature Coast is a hidden gem that locals are proud to call home. This is a place where nature reigns supreme and the beauty of the outdoors is just waiting to be discovered! From local beaches and crystal clear rivers to miles of biking/hiking/horseback riding trails and serene parks, there's no shortage of natural wonders to explore along Florida's Nature Coast.

Weeki Wachee Springs State Park

Weeki Wachee means “little spring” or “winding river” but in all reality, there really aren’t words to capture the magnitude or magic of this spring. Most notably known for their Underwater Mermaid Theater, where guests have had the chance to watch real live mermaids sing and swim through their crystal clear waters, for 75 years now! After the show, you can take a picture with a mermaid then see for yourself how cold the 72 degree water really feels! Take a dip or challenge yourself with a water slide at Buccaneer Bay, and all just for $13 per adult and $8 per child. During busy summer months, the park often reaches capacity. Once the park is full, they cannot admit further entry for the rest of the day, so make sure to get there early! You can be alerted by text, when closure occurs, by texting the keyword ‘Weeki’ to 82149.

If you’re more interested in seeing the natural beauty of this river, contact Weeki Wachee Kayak and Paddling Rentals and you can spend the day floating down 2.8 miles of crystal clear water. And make sure to keep your eyes peeled for manatees along the way, especially in colder months! Currently, it costs $32 for rental and only $6 if you plan on bringing your own kayak/canoe/paddleboard! Just make sure to call and make a reservation in advance, because they do fill up quickly.

Rogers Park

Calling all kayakers, canoers, and paddleboarders! If you're looking for the perfect spot to launch your adventure on the Weeki Wachee River, Mary's Fish Camp, or the Gulf of Mexico, then look no further than Roger's Park. This hot spot is a must-visit destination for anyone who wants to explore the natural beauty of Florida's Nature Coast.

With a public boat ramp and kayak launch located right in the parking area, getting out on the water has never been easier. For just $10, you can park your car and be ready to hit the water in no time. And if you're a Hernando County local with a parking pass, parking is completely free!

Once you're on the water, the possibilities for adventure are endless. Paddle your way up the winding Weeki Wachee River, taking in the stunning scenery as you go. With up to 2.8 miles of river to explore, there's no shortage of natural wonders to discover. And when you're ready to relax, simply float back down to Roger's Park and enjoy the beauty of the river at a leisurely pace.

If you're feeling more adventurous and up for the challenge, head west towards Mary's Fish Camp and the Gulf of Mexico. This route will take you through some of the most picturesque landscapes on the Nature Coast, including winding rivers as well as open waterways. With your own kayak, canoe, or paddleboard, you'll be free to explore at your own pace and take in the beauty of the area on your own terms.

Weeki Wachee Preserves (The Preserves in Hernando Beach)

Are you looking for a quick getaway from the hustle and bustle of city life? Look no further than the Hernando Beach Nature Preserve! At first glance, it may seem unassuming, but don't let that fool you. Once you take a short 5-10 minute walk into the preserve's 11,000 acres, you'll be transported to a tropical oasis that will make you forget you're in Hernando Beach.

There are two entrances to the preserve, but we recommend taking the Shoal Line Blvd. entrance for a quicker route to the good stuff. And trust us, there is plenty of good stuff to explore! With 5.5 miles of marked hiking trails, stunning lakes, and hills ranging from 20-50 feet, there's something for everyone to enjoy.

We love visiting the preserve during the week as a way to switch up our workout routine, but it's also the perfect place to relax and soak up the natural beauty. So pack a picnic, grab your hiking boots, and come experience the Hernando Beach Nature Preserve for yourself!
